All the little things

Not really a witty or smart tittle but i really couldn't be arsed, it is after all 10 am.

It's Life Jim... but we could always hit it with an inverse tachyon beam...

Damn the past week just seemed to fly by.

After all the week before i was actually doing hard labour. Well as hard as nursing can be, well even then it was quiet enough. Even for "quiet" days you'd still be knackered. Despite most people being more than capable of cleaning themselves you still have to pace up and down like mad fetching basin's and sponge's for them. Or stand over the slightly infirmed in case they need a hand.

Then there's the tediousness of tasks. Nothing but fucking tasks. I will be more than glad to take on more responsibility. Hell i know i'm not exactly a good nurse, but i'd be better if i was let to more so i could learn something more than doing this and that like a lap dog. The care of 1 or two patients would be nice, the less needy the better for the moment. I wouldn't exactly want to take on someone going down for surgery or just back or anything... that's more of a team effort...

No give me the cheery interesting folk that i have to berate to look after themselves and re-enforce that they have to get out of here so that more sick people or bigger wastes of space can take their "bed". I can manage those just fine. That and it's more entertaining.

Although interesting or risky patients are good fun. The old forcing of Oral Hygiene and close watching of more than a dozen extra vital signs and blood results. I have to say that's good to. Mainly with cancer patients as you have to watch so much.

Although even on experienced cancer wards you have to ask WTF? Even of experienced, or supposed to be, doctors.

Like an instance of a consultation over a patients high blood sugar. Not only was he NOT EATING, he was also Type one Diabetic with a large metastases on his pancreas. No matter what the fuck we did, even with an Endocrine consultation or Diabetic nurse specialist referral he would still have fucked up blood sugar. He was deeply sick. But yet a doctor goes ahead and ask's openly "what do we do". You're an expert in one field of a complex biological machine, YOU figure it out. Oh and he DOES, by the way, HAVE A SMALL CANCER ON HIS PANCREAS, so any diabetic control isn't exactly helpful.

Yeah, we nurse's get resentful sometimes. If anything it was a valid question. But the issue slowly resolved itself, or i hoped so as he left after that round of chemo.

As for what i have been doing for the past week. I actually don't know. Very little i assume.

I seriously need to start studying. I have it in my head that i need a schedule and all this hullabaloo.

What i also need is ALL my notes. A work ethic/routine. And probably some NEW stationary.

Every time i try and make a new study effort i get new stationary. Even if there's plenty of paper left in my last notebook, at this stage most are tattered beyond neat use.

So i have that in my head. I DONT HAVE PENS. I DONT HAVE MY NOTES. I DONT HAVE PAPER, INTACT PAPER! I DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO FIRST. WHICH SHOULD I PRIORITISE? ARRRRRRRGGGGHHHHH.

It's a horrible world to know that every OTHER thought you have is wrong.

I "KNOW" a lot of things. I know EXACTLY what my problems are. But solving them or stopping them isn't exactly easy. I've tried many a time but i'm more than reluctant to. After all feckless selfish self gratification through avoiding my problems and being a sponging layabout is so much easier than ANY effort what-so-ever.

Now i no way will i ever try and justify my position. I know i must be fucking awful. But my actions speak louder than my thoughts on the matter.

And my main action is sitting on my arse.

There's a nagging want inside of me to actually do things. To be active. To make things. To do things. To socialise, something i am always inept at. To do everything I would want to do. Not what i always do.

I find i write blogs to quell the thirst to write. 5 years ago i quelled my nagging mind by writing lyrics. When i needed it most and was clouded by my first relationship and failed second year, i also didn't write. This year i wrote. I not only wrote here but i started 2 stories. One of which has progressed as far as 4 chapters. As always i still talk to myself. But not JUST simple comments. I play out story idea's to myself like i'm having conversations in the universe's i create. I even use hand gesture's and sound effects to indicate swooping spaceships and explosions. It helps.

The Drive to write is sometimes such an overpowering itch that it becomes unbearable. You have to do something. You have to burry you mind in music. In movies and television. In reading other people's blogs, or the odd time proper books. It's in the mundane calm of pointless Internet searching that i seemed to escape the positive drives within me.

Muse's:

For instance. On Thursday i went CRAZY trying to create my idea of a website.

This was nearly hurting me. I for no reason what-so-ever was growing angry and frustrated that i couldn't event a name for it that fitted my non-fixed idea and also wasn't taken.

I went through dozens of scribbled idea's. I searched google relentlessly. I then in frustration attempted to create it without a proper name. After much anger at names being taken i finally found one that let me through to the creation process.

It was here i got even more mad. It wasn't what i wanted. It just wasn't easy enough. It was so bloody basic that i couldn't fix every mistake, or just move the order of pages. It didn't have enough gadgets to add to it that would facilitate what i wanted. In essence i quickly HATED Google Site's.

I then tried others. But there isnt many. I was trying to do this for free. I had no one else working with me.

My Internet connection also kept failing on me. I SHOULD have been studying. None of my friends were available or interested or as driven as i felt.

I gave up on it. I sighed and just stopped. I was getting no where. I was being Irrational as it was. But why did i spend so much time on something that only angered me so much. It just wasn't working for me. And i didn't even have a set plan. I just wanted to get it done. To test it. To let it grow once i had it created. But i think i was being an idiot.

Writing:

As i mentioned before i have a story i've been working on for a good while. I started it after a dream way back when i was studying for LAST years supplemental exams.

It evolved from there into 4 chapters over 9 months. I know what i want to do with the book.

I even have a plan for 5 books. Which i seem to have now lost.

I'd love to be writing it but parts of it were frustrating me. I was writing dialogue i didn't think made sense or was to shit compared to the rest. I twisted it to make it look like a lie but then it made less sense again.

I then used the yWriter software i found to start over. I inserted parts of the 1st chapter into it and started cutting it like made. The paragraphs were so patched up from multiple edits that they seemed so unfriendly and stuffed with pointlessness.

What has annoyed me so much about it is that i have created a MASSIVE universe and somehow i seem to sell it all to soon and i don't seem to let much story happen. Less is more, but only when describing everything else. The story needs a bit of a lift. And why exactly i chose an Omnipotent Narrator is beyond me.

It means i have to jump into every characters head each time they do something. No matter what's going on i have to explain every thing. I already over explained the universe. Why do i have to give so much to the characters as well.

Basically it's a mess at the moment. But i fear having to go into yWritter again and chop the hell out of it. It seems like so much work. I'd rather keep going. But even where i am in the 4th chapter is annoying me and making me avoid doing it.

Grrr. Just grr.

Another rather fleeting idea in my head is that of the eventual adventure i have planned with DS.

Years ago, hell back in 4th year we provisionally planned a road trip across the States.

Now back then the date for it was 2010 or so.

Realistically 2011.

But now i'm repeating and he has an idea of a 1 year masters.

So that realistically makes it 2012. Because no matter what my misgivings about any form of work i have to work as a nurse once i graduate, that is if there is any work.

After all you can't do such a momentous journey without funding. A LOT OF FUNDING.

We're talking probably in excess of 4 grand per person. Even to do it cheaply you would need safety resource's. You would also need a couple of hundred for a brief stint in Vegas, a must for any road trip.

Now the route has NEVER been fully set. After all there are so many way's to go.

I90 from Boston to Seattle has been ruled out. Mainly because after Chicago/Milwaukee, there's FUCK ALL.

So the main route is to skim the Mason Dixon line and to dip in and out of the south as you go.

Depending on funds either start in New York, Charlotte North Carolina or somewhere in Florida.

Memphis, New Orleans, Baton Rouge, Phoenix, Las Vegas, Sacramento, Los Angeles, Sand Diego and maybe a day trip south of the border....

All relative musts along the way. This is of course if you leave out New England. But how could you really. After all NEW YORK is NEW YORK. And New England is TINY in comparison to the rest of the country. I think it is emphasised on the map, even with a tighter population it is nowhere near as large as the mid-west or any of that vast expanse that took 100 years to map.

After all Who DOESNT want to "LICK THE LIBERTY BELL". Or see the world's largest Ball of Twine. There are a lot of Road movie things that you have to emulate when crossing such a iconic and well advertised continent.

We also would need a sound track. On top of funding any good road trip needs a sound track.
This could indeed take 3 years to decide...

Also i know people in several states.

After all I have Rose my old Internet Friend in North Carolina. I can't remember if she's in Raleigh or Charlotte but she's in one of it's cities. And there is Myrtle beach to check out there.

Then in Florida, Hope may be there at that time. So that's a detour that could be worth making in the future.

There's also several bands i might want to chase. At least 3 in North Carolina. 1 in Missouri. And maybe a few festival's or parts of the INFAMOUS warped tour along the way.

Then of course I-T bound to either be at College in Illinois or back home in Texas. Austin i think.

Damn it really is a big place. And frankly i doubt it would be easy. And we may end up having to take other people with us JUST to afford it. And to add to the adventure.

It has crossed my mind of writing a blog and documenting it. Either just through a blog, Twitter, and photographs. But video also crossed my mind.

It also crossed my mind to write a book about it. Or a screenplay. 2 idea's:

Book:

A book using all the documented part's and just writing about the journey and the tourist-y stuff and so on. Giving my opinion and so on.

Screenplay:

Writing a screenplay based on the road trip. But it being about friends driving with a mission of bringing a Screenplay to LA, the Long way. And documenting their journey as they go in blog form. And as things happen to them the Internet lends a hand and so on. Ye know that whole "one tweet can make a difference" myth... Corny, probably. Maybe scrap that bit.

But road movies are a genre unto themselves. And if you think about it clichéd. Why does it have to be America anyway?

Why not all of Ireland Circulated. E1, across to cork, up the N17 or whatever and then through the North and back down the E1. Or do the UK REALLY SLOWLY.

Or even cooler, Cork To MOSCOW! Pity about the bits after Poland...

Hey maybe i could start a career doing Road trips... or just leave it with the states...

Sometimes i hate my idea's. I have so many. I have at least 20 or 30 years worth of Work in my head based on story idea's alone. How exactly would i fit road trips into it all to? After all i can't even study for these exams and yet i dream about a tomorrow i can't even give myself...

How's this for an idea, Inter-railing 2010. Trans-America 2012. Cork to Moscow 2014?

It sucks being such a hypocrite.

Cinephillia: A Trailer-gasm

For this post of Cinephillia i thought i would share with you some trailers i recently found.

I infact found queit a lot, so enjoy. Witty comments and gushing fan boy cries of glee are bound to also follow...

The Bluetooth Virgin

This little movie may look a tad indie and LA pretentious and self aware, but i like the look of it. Hollywood is always great when it paints a self-aware mocking picture of itself. After all LA Confidential and Chinatown are not exactly what you'd think of when you think of Hollywood self-mocking, more scream or a trippy stephen soderburg movie, but They also shine a light on the underbelly of the cities seedy past.

This movie however is a basic Screenwriters nightmare. In a city awash with screenplays, a freindship falling apart over a shit one sounds very plausable. And considering i can see a little of my Friendship with DS in it, it sounds like a must see. Although i dont think it will get a large release over here.

Whip IT!

Did you say Ellen Page, Idie music, Beauty Pagents, Rollerskates, Girls on rollerskates, Girls tackling each other on rollerskates, Drew Barrymore staring and directing, an idie sound track? IM SOLD!!!!!!!!!

An Education

Post-war comming of age romance, glamour and a bohemian life style or a boring education at Oxford. What a choice. Some would pass, but this stars a lot of familiar face's Including the girl who played "Sally Sparrow" in what was possibly the best episode of Dr Who, so i'm sold just for her!

Worlds Greatest Dad

Now a movie with Robin William's may sound like a bad thing after recent outings but this one looks brilliant. Of course it's got the usual critic lauding that you'd expect from a movie that's "his best in years" but i have to admit it looks good. A nice dark comedy about a really shit life. I think i'll by into that, even if it is Mork.

Adam Sandler, Adam Sandler Dying, Seth Rogen, Judd Apatow writing and directing, I'm SOLD!

The trailer give's away a lot of the plot and A LOT of jokes, but it still looks good. I like almost all of Adam Sandler's movies, i however don't like Billy Madison and haven't seen little nicky, from what i hear i haven't missed out. But either way Mr Sandler is a love him or hate comedy classic actor and pairing him with the new IT man of comedy was bound to happen, and having Sandler Dying, very fitting.

MOON

Now Sam Rockwell has been on my list of favourite actors for a good while now. Especially after the brilliance
of Choke. Now this movie really does like a favourite for the year as well. Let's set the scene. Man alone
on the moon. Sam Rockwell, meets a clone of himself, thinks he's going mad, ticking clock. Oh and they
had to cut corners so this is the first mainstream movie in years to heavily use Minature's instead of cgi! That alone sounds great!

Creation

Now this one looks brilliant. Paul Bettany is an amazing actor. His turn as the doctor/botonist in Master and commander
was brilliant. And a few years later it seem's fitting that he now plays Mr Charles Darwin Himself. Not only that
but he gets to star alongside his wife Jennifer Connolly for the 2nd time, this time actually acting WITH her. Their last
movie together involved him being a figmanent of Russel Crowes "beautiful mind".

This movie looks like a goodun, although some of it will be a bit of a pandering to the idea that the Theory is sound,
when infact back then it was just something 2 men came up with at the same time based on other people's other
various observations that asked more questions than gave answers. So the small snippet of Darwin reaching out to a chimp,
ala God to Adam in the Sistine chapel seemed a slight bit offensive(not to me), despite claims this movie is from an "agnostic" point of view.

The Cool name award goes to.....

Flame and Citron

What about Danish spies/double agents isn't cool. And this looks damn good! I don't care about the subtitles, The
subtitles. After all Paul Verhoven's Black Book, the dutch i know, was also pretty good. You rarely here about the Dannes
when it comes to WW2, after all they were never liberated. They also were the seat of the Kriegsmarine run Nazi
government at the end of the war. So their history is a little forgotten, except for only a dozen jews being captured.

A wonderful story of how a tip off led to EVERY JEW in Denmark Leaving by boat at night the day before they were due
to be rounded up into ghetto's. The wonders of history.

On a similar Nazi themed note, if you haven't heard of this one you should be ashamed!

DEAD SNOW aka Nazi Zombie's in Norway!

<

Nazi's! ZOMBIES! COMEDY! SNOW! NAZI GOLD! And did i mention Norway...

Every geek and genre fan in the world is eagerly awaiting this one! It just looks amazing. There's already
rumours and fear that hollywood may buy the rights to it and either reap all the benefits, or even worse, remake it!

Please save this movie. They already stole that Swedish vampire movie "Let the right one in". Now i don't have a source
for anything about this one being re-made, but i wouldnt put it past them.

After all it's Sean of the Dead meet's Snow and a cabin set up. It's cliché's abound, but it's also the kind of idea
hollywood whished it came up with, just like Sean of the Dead, which they are still kicking themselves over.

EIN, ZWEI, DIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now for pure hotness value, and of course the allure of an attractive person that will kill you during sex...

Jennifers Body

Megan Fox. MEGAN FOX!!!!! Okay, so i haven't even seen the New Transformers but even i know this saultry
little vulpine is smokin' hot! And the idea of her killing "boys" and lezing it up with yer wan from Mamma Mia, has me sold!

The Year of 9's.

This will strick you as very odd, but also cool, 3 movie's, all with 9 in the name.

District 9

This Sci-fi race analogy movie looks damn good. Imagine that 30 years ago from the perspective of a near future, aliens arrived.
Then they stayed. But they were still a mistery. We treated them as "un-human". We segregated them.

And we naturally feared them. Then all hell breaks loose. The Documentary style presented in the teaser, and the
start of this trailer is great. South Africa is the best place for this story and i can't wait to see it go down.

Also the CGI is rather amazing, kudos to Peter Jackson and all his Orc experiance!

This Musical, yes MUSICAL, looks amazing. Daniel Day Lewis, Juddi Dench, Penelope Cruz, Nicole Kidman and a Sofia Loren Cameo.

The music, the Italian theme, it all looks amazing! I love a good musical, and this looks great!

Just for the love of god NOT another oscar for DDL, he's to fucking good to be alowed near camera's!

A Tim Burton backed project. Animation and cute sock puppet heroes that are meant to save the world. Sounds good!

Mr Nobody.

Jared Letho playing a seemingly unimporant person who live's far into the future because he never made a choice, instead he lived every choice possible.

SOUNDS AMAZING!

And to close i give you this CGI spectacular from the guy who made independance day.

Take having John Cusack as a subtle bonus.

2012

Also at the very end the MONEY SHOT of the JFK crashing into the Whitehouse, it's the new Disaster movie icon.

After all this guy hit the white house with a big green laser in the 90's, why not an air craft carrier in the noughties!

Prospectus and musings; A website idea.

A few little musing's on my website idea.

Muse's:

I mentioned in a recent blog post that i have an idea for a blogging website.

Now nothing is concrete just a drive in my mind to get all my friends and people i read and other bloggers together to work together on a website to talk about their live's.

The main angle's i'm thinking of are either YOUTH in General, Irish youth or Young Irish people who write or have idea's.

The last one being the best. IE Entrepreneur's, Writers, Musician's, Artist's, Poet's, Aspiring Journalists, Training Profesional's and Opionionated people who want to be heard.

So far i've only recieved 3 email's in reply to it but i will pursue the matter further over the comming week's before i create a website and get it all going. I have to amas a team and so on. And then set it up so it's friendly for more to join and contribute.

1 of the email's was rather fruitful in that it was from an old classmate who know's a thing or two about business. The main jist of his reply was that there is great advertising oppurtunities to be had and so on. But it also got me on this current line of thought of YOUNG PEOPLE WITH IDEA'S.

A place for the "future leaders of industries" and so on to express their current views and live's and all that jazz. See how they plan to be what they want to be, how they view the world, what their live's are like, and if or how they come succesful or not.

It could also be a chance for these people to connect with each other via this website in a forum of exchange and debate.

OR in simple terms, a bohemian café on the internet for all the mover's and shakers, and thoughtful layabouts of the future.

A Name will also be needed.

Sugestions and other questions or queeries can be sent to:

Smiley.Socialdullard@gmail.com

A pipedream or a possible venture? Stay tuned.

A quest for simplicity, that was not so simple.

Oh what a productive non-productive day i've had.

You see i should have been studying, or writing and of course cleaning the house. I also have at least two loads of washing to get done and a massive pile of ironing to do as well.

But you would be able to tell by the stubble i am forming that clean or ironed cloth's aren't really on my agenda at the moment.

WEB-Watch:

A Report on Streamlining your useage:

Now i like many prolific web users have more web identities than you can shake a stick at. Now happily it's not more than i have friends, but it might not be far off.

Now a problem arrose in recent day's after i made myself a new "business" email account.

I made it with the hope that i would use it for some future entrepreneurial venture, blogging unification, or whatever.

With 2 iGoogle Account's it started to get messy checking my new Work Email and still using Google Reader in another Tab.

So i asked myself, and then google search, is there a way of viewing more than one email service from the same place.

Now i'm aware Gmail can harvest an entire email account and then recieve that account in a Gmail account but i didnt want that. I wanted them seperate.

So first off my search led me to Fuser.Com

Now Fuser sounded very promising. It can read every email account out there, feed's your twitter and even myspace and Facebook. Unfortunatly it's only a beta. IE it's not finished yet. I tried in vain but i couldn't get any of my 3 email accounts to work with it.

But i kept the account anyway as i think it will be useful in future.

My Search then eventually took me to a technology blog website that led me to "Pageonce".

This Interesting service allows you to view all your inboxes but not emails, to sort your social networking service's such as twitter, facebook, myspace, youtube, lastfm and others in the same place, and tonnes of other feature's i don't have a need for such as banks, travel companies and utilities.

The idea behind it is that you can view all the activities of your web actions in one place. However for the moment it seems it only shows you whats happening and doesn't let you control them all.

I for one like this service, although i may explore the concept further and seek it's cousin's for an better experiance. As far as i can tell there are other's but i haven't found them yet.

The next one was Iminta.

A interesting service that allows you to view all the internet activities of your friends in one live stream. So if they Digg or suggest a blog to follow you can see it, if they tweet you see it, if they update their status you see it. And the same the other way around.

You can also limit what certain groups of freinds see, and whether or not some of your information is public.

This shows promise, although it require's sending those pesky request emails to people. And i hate sending those!

The Death of my social networking.

Now as a prolific internet user i joined a good few things over the years.

Adult dating site's usually forget you once you never fully activate your accounts by paying, so that's not really a nuisance.

However normal social networking site's you don't use can be.

Somewhere in the ether of the internet is another Profile with your name and email that you don't look after. It may be out of date and seriously neglected. It may look like you have no friends or whatever.

Hence i got rid of some of my profiles. 3 of them basically.

I removed accounts from the following social networking websites:

Tagged
Netlog
Nimble

Tagged had an interesting match system but i never actually made a new friend or potential partner of the obosite sex from it, so i decided to get rid of it.

Netlog is a rapidly expanding website but frankly i had no use for it and none of my friends are on it.

Nimble was supposidly the next big thing in social networking but it really isn't when facebook changed it's tack and is now the ONLY place to be.

Now Bebo also is languishing in decline. I only use it to talk to 1 of my friends. A dire state of affairs but the truth. But i won't get rid of it just yet. Too fond of the memories.

It also is rather good. It has everything everyone else has, it also has good navigation and can stream your facebook and Twitter posts, but not your actual feeds of everyone you know on those websites. It also has band page's which have a rather basic music player. But when myspace is the most popular and successful place to be a BAND there's less of a point to it.

BUT I'M KEEPING MY BEBO!!!

Q-Rated:

Iusethis.com has now opened my eye's to what the world is using on their computers.

This meant i went on a bit of a mad spree of downloading of things i thought would be very useful.

I could list them but there's little point. I havent reviewed them all yet.

But what do i use you may ask:

Well for the internet i use Google Chrome.

In recent weeks my Media playing needs are fulfilled by Window's media player but i am also a large user of iTunes.

I do have Winamp and Real player, but they languish unused...

As for other toy's i use Google Picasa for pictures. But i will be product testing "GIMP" over the next few days. It stands for some software thing but i can't help think of those feckless masochists in latex or leather balaclava's with zips on the mouth. It's supposidly an open source software similar to Photoshop, so i'll give it a bash.

I also use TweetDeck. Twitter is good, but i can use this to update more regularly and to sort people's tweets by groups and colums as well as seeing my @replies and Direct message's all in the same place. It also has inbuilt tweetpic compatability to save on opening a webpage or another tab. It's trends are a bit shite though, it doesn't give you the live feed of the trend the same way the Twitter webstite does, i'm still hoping this will change.

LastFM. Okay so no one actually see's what i listen to, but i like the ability to know what i listen to and how much. I always have it on the go.

Windows Live Messenger. AKA MSN to those who have been using it as long as me. 6 Faithful years i think, at this rate. It's essential!

Winds of change:

I just got Firefox 3.5 and i have to say i may start using it more often. For ease in the use of my several accounts i may use it for one email while i use chrome normally. But also for it's toolbar functions and other applications. I will road test all of them but i think using all these added tools may improve and add to my internet usage the way i want it to be.

The same may be said for Opera Widgets. I have yet to fully test all Opera has to offer but i may also bend that way...

Unfortunatly it's Unite Service is a 1 account per copy of the browser affair. Which in my mind is a croc of shit. It means i can't access all that stuff using an opera browser from college computers. Which is what i would love to do with it. But security and so on means for now, such a thing can't happen.

But i may put Opera Mini on my INQ1.

I through, the support service's offered by INQ have discovered that i can add ANY java based Application or game to my INQ1. So i will definetly be trying out a lot of toys on my phone in future. Stay tuned for more in that regard!

Sorry for the nerd out, but it's what i was up to today. And unfortunatly there will be A LOT more to come...

Seminally Tuddled, or wtf?

I just have to laugh at that title.

I recently added a search software to my blog to aid any potential readers to search for running themes throughout my blog or to find my blog via search engine's and so on.

It sent me a "weekly report" the top result was Seminally Tuddled. Not only does this make fuck all sense to me, but it is completly unrelated to what i said. In the snippet the search engine gave of my blog i said this:

"... possibly a seminal genius second and a rather mediocre 3rd album. ...... Tuddle pip for now."

Now that is from an old post. And what i meant to say was "toodle's" if it even has a correct spelling. What the hell is a tuddle and why were 2 search's made that were looking for it and why specifically a seminal one?

Ignorance in this case is not bliss, but rather confusion.

Urban dictionary result's:

1: Tuddle: to cuddle while touching bare tummy's

2:Tuddle: To cuddle with more meaning

3: To take one's time, a slow walk, a person who take's one's time is therefor a tuddler

I am still confused. But humourously informed either way.

TOODLE PIP Folks!

I have a cunning plan...

Knowing that quote is fraut with comic disaster i hope it won't be a curse...

I recently have been thinking of starting a website. The website i have in mind will be a space for young people to post their blogs and idea's on different things. The more people involved the better, ie the less work for me.

Basically everyone who ad's things to it would be under no obligation to always ad something. Also their own blog would be linked on the web site so as to direct more readers to the writter and their seperate or similar blogs.

Also it would be relatively moderation free. Just don't go comparing Bugs Bunny to Hitler in an S&M outfit or anything like that.

I emailed a bunch of my friends, internet contacts and bloggers i read. This post will also feed on my facebook so people will be able to read it there.

If anyone is interested in contributing email at this new email:

Smiley.Socialdullard@gmail.com

Also suggestions for a website name would be much appreciated.

Talking about music, doublethink, racism and the military industrial complex

Righto folks i have a rather comprehensive nag fest and analytical ranting in store for you today. Indeed i do. Some of it is so complicated that i'm not sure if it's a valid point or not, but i'll make it anyway.

There is also several youtube video's i'd like to slip in here and there but i don't know how best to use them considering all the words i will be saying so i think this time round it will be Url's and not embedded clips.

Cinephillia:

On friday, as i mentioned in my previous post, i treated myself to a movie with DS. Public Enemies. Johnny Depp, Christian Bale, that alone sells it. But also being a depression era tale of John Dillinger and the formation of the FBI, well it also was a must see. Now it's long, stylish, well acted and down right pretty. But it almost fall's flat sometimes. It almost seems that in making it so long they left a lot out. Unlike "Jessie James" which was so long EVERYTHING was put in. A movie that seems to sit at the back of memory because of it's length and brilliance that can't really be bitched about or complimented. Public Enemies has me mixed. I loved it. But sometimes it moved to quick or left things out. Sometimes the handheld camera work was Glaring and shaky and disorientating, other time's it was stylish, well used and unique.

Overall i give the film 3 1/2 stars. It could have been far better. It is really good, but it seemed to just tease us, titillating good fun that where we were never fully satisfied. Kind of tantric masturbation in film form.

The Gaslight Anthem:

A proper rock band from New Jersey. Their main influence is the Boss himself Bruce Springsteen. Now i'm not a big "boss" fan. I know his hits and so on, but i'm not American, and i was born in the late 80's with no memories that old. So to me he is just one of a multitude of star's i can never connect with the same way. But this band is amazing. They not only have an old sound but it also has a strong punk like undercurrent that is just brilliant. You will thoroughly enjoy them no matter what your musical persuasion.

Here they are at "Glasto" performing with one of their hits with The Boss.

Doublethink and Cognitive Dissonance in relation to Michael Jackson.

Yeah i'm as shock and dumbfounded as you are, but there's a little point coming up here.

In simple terms Doublethink as described in 1984 is knowing something is both true and false at the same time. It is knowing that one thing is one way but is also another way that is not the same. It is knowing that you Oceania is at war with Eastasia but at some unrecorded point in the past you know that the enemy was Eurasia and the ally Eastasia.

The psychological explanation for this is a more confusing phrase called Cognitive Dissonance or "compartmentalisation". This is where the mind openly is aware of a contradiction and uses one or the other answer depending on the situation.

Where this train of bizarre thought is leading in relation to Michael Jackson is so much more than the denial some people had over his death in the first few hours and days. No what i'm trying to talk about is part's of his life that still lay in doubt.

The media and MJ himself both spread lies about his life. Some say he was bleached, some say it was a disease and some say it was a both. Some say Bubble's was a publicity stunt that wasn't real, other's claim he actually lived with a monkey. Also despite being proved innocent other people still think that he is disturbed and has an odd interest in children. Basically a lot of the stories surrounding him have a lot of Double truth's and untruths. And it's very difficult to know which one is which.

Another one i would like to refer to is the song Man in The Mirror. I mentioned it on my blog before. It is a classic song. It's very moving and amazing. However, when the fuck did you ever hear of it before his death or other then when it was released? All of his other hits even his Jackson 5 songs were always referenced or played during his fall from grace. And yet this song received the least airplay or reference. True other songs like "Remember the time" and "Librarian girl" were also quickly forgotten but why this song? It's current popularity proves that it isn't something people dislike. If anything it's one of his best songs.

Where doublethink comes in is where I do not remember this song. It was released either in 1987 or 88. I'm too young to know about most of what occurred then because my first memories are from 91/92. (my first memory either being my 3rd birthday or waking to "always take the weather with you" on the radio). But where was this song. All of his other hits were on the radio in my life time. I remember owning tape's of both Dangerous and History. I had vague, "oh that's familiar" memories when i heard the song over a montage of his life at the end of a C4 special the sunday after he died. I then actively searched for the song. There was no music video for it readily available in Youtube searches. Instead just a title card version from the History album and a live performance from the 88 Grammy's. Only a week or so later did EW mention in a list of his greatest video's that one existed that featured a lot of famine, war, john Lennon and so on.

For a popular song, that i didn't know or remember, why was it's video so obscure. Why was it such an unfamiliar and familiar memory in my head. Why is it that this song seem's to have rewritten it's own success now that it's singer has passed? Of all his hits this song was mentioned the least, but now that he is dead it is one of the most referenced. If you asked me or many non-devote fans or people of similar age very few would know this song. And we would have all grown up with michael Jackson. I still remember when the MJ Simpson's episode was NEW! I still remember the media joke's about his Marriage to Ms Presly.

Basically my failure to sully a psychological concept and George Orwell great idea in order to reference my own ignorance and lacking media exposure in my youth has lead to an extensive rant.

So i'll leave you this. Another rendition of the song i have been talking about performed by one of it's writers. Moving stuff, i almost cried. Don't watch if your sensitive and so on. And her statements about the media are pretty good.

I was going to go in depth with this one but i might leave it be as it is far more controversial.

Basically african-american's are REALLY RACIST. They are now claiming that Michael was "their" man. That he was "their" icon. That he made things easier for "them". They are equalling MJ to the faux importance Martin Luther King put on Nichelle Nicholas secretary role on Star Trek. They are in essence re-writing history to suit the moment. Similar to what i was trying to get at before in referencing 1984. Here is the best example:

During the Memorial Service Reverend Al Sharpton, a veteran civil rights activist, made Michael's influence so far reaching and awe inspiring that it was almost believable. I'm not denying that some of it was true but some of it was just made up. For instance he claimed that Michael's charity and eco-awareness and equality song's "pre-dated" Live Aid. The second you heard this I realised this was both wrong and right at the same time. His aid was very important and influential when his songs about it came out. But what maid far less sense was that was all in the 90's when i have memories of how it was all critisized and parodied. Live Aid was in 1985. MJ wasn't even involved and was in his carreer dark spot for Live 8. Al Sharpton basically lied in a believable way. He spoke not as a preecher but like a politician. If he had said 2+2= Michael Jackson we would have all believed him!

I was going to carry african-american pre-emptive reactionary racism further, but i won't. It's a massive stereotype that seem's to be true. This minority is loud and will never let such idea's down. Thoughts that don't even exist. If they accuse a white american of racism they actually doubt themselve's and think "oh am i racist?", a form of doublethink if you will.

Some how my rant just turned the Mastachioed dictator of classic novel 1984 into a big mo fo brother from Compton.

Newshound:

Due to ongoing actions in Afgahnistan British Force's have recently experianced increased Casualities that haven't been seen since the War over some Sheep stations in the southern atlantic.

This is mainly due to the fact that they are taking the fight TO the Taliban. They are actively fighting a war against them to try and destroy their grip on Hellmand Proveince and base's in the border region with Pakistan.

The Brits, what was once one of the worlds greatest, non-fighting, military force's are a laughing stock. The main reason is lack of resource's. They're yankie gun-ho cousin's have every toy you can think of and they do it all with close Air support from Chinooks, black hawks, A-10's, Apache Gunships, Harriers and UCAV's (unmanned combat ariel vehicle's). Where as the Brits they have barely any Chinooks, and all of 6 or 7 Harriers and a few Apache's.

This means as they advance they have to use Tanks, Land Rovers, APC's and other Armoured Command Vehicle's and so on, to get to the front. When they get past all the risk of road side bombs and RPG attack's their wounded have to wait a long time under fire for A helicopter and air support to reach them. Most of the time they have to wait for BRITISH support. As for some mad reason "coalition" force's don't work side by side using each others aircraft and other toy's. This leave's the Brit's basically fucked.

Back home in the UK there's no money for more helicopters. They're best useful toy, the Chinook transport Helicopter is an American made Helicopter, and so Is the Apache. At home in the Uk something like 4 Chinook's are Rotting in a hanger because they were fitted with incompatable "avionic's" equipment. Basically Analog and Digitial device's are sitting side by side as well as a few imperial and metric one's. Basically the MOD bought million's of pounds worth of vital equipment that is unsafe to fly. So what do they do?? They let them sit in a hanger costing millions in "maintainance". This was a few years ago that this was revealed. And they spent more money reviewing the feisability of spending MILLIONS more on updating or de-grading them so that they could be used safely. Somehow this shambolic occurance has escaped the media's attention several years on.

It's as if they forgot their brief outrage about this problem, when even then they knew that the British Troops needed Air Support and Evacuation/extraction abilities that should be available from Chinook Helicopters.

It all come's down to money. They don't want to buy more and pay for flying them out there. THey don't want to fix the faulty one's they have and fly them out there. And they also don't want to loose. A catch 22 maybe, but it shows how stupid the government are at fighting war's.

World armies at that are still inaffective at their jobs aswell. I'm no expert. But even i know you don't walk in close groups when on patrol. Land Rovers and Hummers and useless. Helicopters are vital but the technology used on current model's is ancient and no modern idea's have been put into used due to cost. It's nice that UCAV's and UAV's are used a lot more, but they are only one part of the future of "warfare".

For instance i'm a computer gamer. In 1998 Half-Life Featured Marine's as bad guy's. Their Aircraft of choice was the Osprey. The Osprey was the supposed "next-generation" transport. It was proposed in the late 80's. By 1998 it was still a distant dream, take far to long and costing BILLIONS of dollars. In Half-Life it was shown to have similar abilities to normal helicopters in that Troops could drop down on rope's out of the side's. This was planed for. But because the Osprey can fly both as a helicopter and a Propellar aircraft the "vertical thrust" when in helicopter mode make's jumping out the side's impossible. What a crock of shit! Over a decade of development and billions of dollars and they NEVER fixed that problem? IDIOTS!

Yet somehow in world war 2 and the cold war millions of military weapon's and civilian product's were made as a result of demand. Hell the american's put 12 men on the moon because if they didn't the russians would. And some-how the Saturn V is STILL the most powerful rocket ever made. The Shuttle was also a CHEAP alternative to other idea's.

In essance what i'm hinting at is that the Military industrial complex, which sometime's i doubt exist, must actually exist. In recent years it is evident that it is better to let troop's die cheaply using reliable well tested weapons and vehicle's then it is to provide full technological superiority. It's easier to waste billions on things that fall short of what was promissed, year's late, just so you can make a profit.

Look at the Eurofighter. The worlds most manouverable static combat aircraft, or whatever. It's so unstable at flying that it needs computers to keep it flying. But this is all on purpose so that it make's turns that no other plane can match. Sort of pointless when you carry misile's that can kill civilians from 2 miles... The UK and european partners spent Billions on this impressive machine to provide work for their own aerospace military contracters. Then the media kick up a fuss when they started to sell them OUTSIDE of europe. Turkey and Saudi Arabia wanted some. This followed with accusations of Corruption and so on because it was a dangerous trading of a vital weapon and so on. And yet no one bitched about the money wasted on it's development?

The Uk's Two new Super Aircraft carriers are also going to waste money, and they don't even have a keel yet. The Aircraft they will Carry the Navy Varrient of the F-35 will also be late and expensive. After all, it's american, it's had many a hiccup already, and it's supposed to be the main fighting aircraft for the next 30 years beside the LATE and over budget F-22 Raptor.

The Osprey came out in 2001, first service 2003 or so. It was planned in the late 80's and took at least 10 years to enter service.

The F-22 was origionally called the Lightning. It was designed out of initial work on stealth aircraft from the 70's. The F-117 being the infamous bizarely shapped brainchild of that work. The B-2 later being the terrifying but late Long Range Stealth Nuclear bomber that arrived just as Mother Russia fell. The F-22 was the next toy. But it ran over budget and development was for some reason slow. Then Jurrasic park came out, and some hip general changed the name to Raptor. Then in 2007 they finally started replacing other long serving planes one squadran at a time.

The waste of money is beyond evident in the armies of the world. Some Philosopher's say we have a talent for killing ourselves, that there is no end to man's Inhumanity to man. And yet for sheer profit it's easier to let people die over tried and tested weapons, and easier to waste money on research instead of construction, use and selling.

The best selling gun in the world is the Ak-47. This weapon was invented in 1949. 60 years later this simple tool of death is the most prevelant gun in the world, and is still just as lethal. After all it is so simple even a child can use it. Thats how deadly this weapon is. That is how affective this weapon is. The US spends Trillions on weapon research and 60 years later they still have no affective weapon's that can counter-act a militia member or child who holds an Ak-47, plant's a road side bomb or internet sourced I.E.D.

The idea behind current actions in Iraq and Afgahnistan is to use "hearts and minds" over open warfare or military tactics. This is because no matter how much money they spend on military development and research, a person with a cause and a simple readily available means of causing pain and suffering will always be more succesful than someone with the bigger, shinnier, more expensive toy.

Where there is a will, there is a way. Where there is money, their is profit, loss and complacancy.

I aplogise for the military rant and other big idea's. But i seemed to want to say that.

Good-bye for now.
