Blog worries...

Yeah, it's possible to have them from time to time.

Not only is it Subject drought, writers block, laziness and forgetfulness, which plague me frequently, but also followers etc.

If you my dear readers haven't noticed, the follower's widget has been broken on my blog for some time. And i haven't the foggiest why. I sort of believe this could be why my official readership by those with google accounts my not have risen, but also why i only see a few devote readers posting comments. And of course i thank you for that.

I'd love to ye know, do all the blogging things of "networking" and being friendly and so on, but sometime's i forget to. I mainly just read stuff out there in the ether. Like the blogs i follow, i rarely physically go to them anymore, as i read them in my Google Reader account. For that i am sorry. It's just easier. So if i am not giving you views, it possibly shows.

And from time to time i do stay in touch with the Zietgeist of opinion my readers may have about me, although this is rare also. The reader's Ziegeist...

But i'm not clueless as to what my readers are up to. I can see weekly results thanks to the Lijit widget.

If you haven't noticed, it's the green thing to the left. You can search it, it's nice and handy. It also tell's me the number of page visit's i get, the most popular blog post's clicked on, and the google search's that lead people to my blog.

Sometimes this leads to oddities, such as Seminally Tuddled...

Current oddities and trends are the google search result's that lead people to my blog.

The top ten from the past week are as follow's:

  1. social dullard (4 times)
  2. "charlotte froom" split (1 time)
  3. "security is mostly superstition... ..life is but a daring... (1 time)
  4. 622291_whoneeds6_mini (1 time)
  5. battlestar galactica gideon gaza (1 time)
  6. charlotte froom (1 time)
  7. song names for a band (1 time)
  8. the like (1 time)
  9. toast maker won't work (1 time)
  10. wishing he was dead the like lyrics (1 time)

Now the top one won't surprise anyone. It is my "well" established Screen Name and blogging name. It is also my profile presence for a lot of the internet, so if someone know's anything about me, they know to search for that in order to read my blog or stalk me etc...

Frequently i see result's for people searching for The Like, and like Related info. This is surprising since i have only made a few small post's here and there about them. Example's include, Ilikethelike and a guest post for Culch.ie ( I like the like, maybe you could too?)

Battlestar Galactica Gideon "gaza" is an interesting one. I love BSG and i love that i squeezed a comparison of the Gideon Massacre with the MV Mavi Marmara in my Gaza Post.

So this one pleased me mightily.

Toast maker won't work... How very odd, but i'm sure someone wanted to know other people's experience of non-working Toasters. Or they just didn't know what a toast maker was called...

Actually here is a heavily related post that i'm sure must have been part of what they found,

I know i've promised it in the past, but i really should clean up tagging and links in this blog. And i have also promised to blog more often, for this i have little self control, and even less excuse's.

Hopefully when my laptop arrive's, more later, i will get into it a lot more.

Quirky Quandry

What make's me happy?

It's a hard question to answer.

I won't make it all to bleak, but i really don't know.

I'd love to find out.

Music wise, in truth, melodic songs make me happy.

More than that songs that have something spiteful, witty or smart to say, but at the same time happy sounding.

This is why i gravitate to Fall Out Boy so much. In the early day's they discrived their lyrics as "Brutally Honest".

That's the kind of thing i like to hear. Disguised anger so to speak. Using melody and wit to express how you feel. Using you mind, popular culture and humour to express how you feel without directly referencing act's or feelings.

It has a depth to it. If you just go by the words, it's all simple. It should tell a story. But if you dig deeper it's far more harsh, or more profound.

I don't hear all the positive's in every song, i hear whats underneath in a lot of what i love.

Prime examples:

7 Minutes in Heaven (Atavan Halen) by Fall Out Boy

A slightly Darker song. After all it's about an a Antidepressant's over-dose. The ultimate irony of Suicide attempts. And yet, a pun in the sub-title, a positive melodic song.

Pete Wentz is one broody writer. But Patrick Stump and the rest make it all a positive catchy song. It seem's impossible. But it will have you singing catchy lines that are really really dark. "I keep telling myself i'm not the desperate type". That's dark, that's out there, but it's so peppy.

The Beach by All Time Low

This IS FAR more positive. But at the same time it has doubt, it has nostalgia. And it use's little hooks and witticisms to distract you from the fact that it's all slightly negative. The narrator is afraid of change. He's remembering a positive time, or so he believes. It's not exactly a morally "good" time to remember. "Loosing my mind for the week" isn't something to be proud of.

But it's a party song, so to speak. It's a sort of anthem. It's all about youth, and not wanting to loose it. It's a lot more than you'd think it is.

Perfect by Marianas Trench

Nothing's perfect here. The narrator, or singer, has a massive disparity over what should perfect, and what is. He's pleading and begging to the object of affection to change things. He'll do anything etc And it's all not so rosy.

But "it's better this way, i'll make this perfect again!"

Just listen to every word. It's just so much smarter than a catchy song.

And loosely, Kiss With A Fist by Florence and the Machine.

In terms of Brutal honesty this one goes right for the jugular. It's not hiding behind the usual alliteration's and simile's i love. It's Right there in the open. Domestic Violence, but with Relish and wit.

It's all over. It can be laughed at from a distance. And it's all happy. It was tit-for-tat and Florence apparently came out on top. She won. She up the anti most of the time and she come's out the better party.

It's fun, catchy and full of the kind of Relish that you just don't expect and have to applaud.

But a Song/ video that can make me happy, or at least make me smile?

The Decline of man (a music and society rant)

Is it just me or is Lady Gaga NOT attractive?

She look's like this right?

I really really do not like her! She's androgenous to the point of disturbing, and her fashion sense, if you can call it that, is so bizarre and individualistic that it's just weird.

I just don't get anything about her.

To continue the MUSICMEME thing i started yesterday, or earlier today tecnicaly, i want to talk about a song i really hate. Or more technically, the song i least like.

Poker Face by Lady Gaga:

I really don't like this song. And i'm not sure why. But it's just really really annoying.

I know there's innuendo, i know there's humour, but i just don't like it. It's kind of annoying. It's sort of nonsensical and i really can't stand it. Or is it just her?

This however is rather good? How strange.

So is this?:

And This:

And to some extent this and this:

But that is also a prime example of SEVERAL bad things about the modern world.

The speed of internet meme's is verging on scary. This kid was only spotted as something loads of people are looking at a few day's ago. Then Ellen watches it, her producers contact his mom, and he's on the show in the same week.

That and he's a tad prepubescent. Justin Bebier Prepubescent! It's disturbing.

It's as if people are starting to view Androgynous Women and Non-Masculine men as far more appealing that the normal Gender divide.

And it's just plain weird. I myself am far from a Manly Masculine image. I don't like sports, i'm not muscular and i don't exactly have luck with the ladies or have strong male bonds with anyone.

Hell i was a Male nursing student for a while at that.

But i don't like this trend of Lady Gaga, or Boy's who aren't even men. It's just wrong.

It's probably the one area in my personal politics where i believe i am conservative!

Men should be manly, women should be both sexy or motherly. Sure there can be effeminate gay men, and butch lesbians, and trans-gender and transsexual, but Androgynous people or undefined, that's just too far.

And considering that the whole Boy band culture is gone, there are few Rock bands that are popular, few solo male artists and the Whole Sexualising of Men via Interest in Vampires (Twilight, True Blood) you have got to ask, what do women want?

Why the hell Are Prepubescent boys and un-dead wife beaters with glittery skin more popular than real men.

And considering in Ireland, we Make up 49% of the population, it seem's even more difficult to be a man in this so called "equal" world. Mechanisation and Feminine empowerment have rendered a lot of formally manly role's and jobs useless. In our current culture young men are more likely to do worse at school, find it harder to get work and several time's more likely to commit suicide.

Is it just me or is the world bleak for Man. We had the ball's to name the species after ourselves. We ruled unchallenged, sort of, for 42,000 years. Now it's all getting hazy.

Now i'm all for many kinds of Womens Lib. But when i have no idea what it mean's to be a man anymore, and masculine ideal's are being ripped apart. It's not exactly a world many of us our ready to adapt to easily.

And yes i am single, and yeah, probably sexually frustrated. Oh and currently unfit and a bit overweight.

But i've a job now. I start Saturday. I will be ferrying drink to inebriated women, maybe things will be on the up.

I lost a match, an election, and a mud fight all in a few days.

And somehow it took me twice as long to blog about it!

Rallying the Troops:

On good friday the legendary and oh so important face off match between the society and the Others took place.

Considering The Society has Won the past 4 years, last year 11-2, it was bound to be a good time. Although this year, we were quaking in our boots a bit. As Malkovich, an interloper between both societies, fond of the drink, and a massive football fan was now in charge of the Others side.

The society,  had Letch. And this time we couldn't call upon any of the over 25 former members releaving their youth like previous matches. So instead The society had to field nothing but it's own people, including myself and a ringer from UCD.

I arrived early at the Gimby and was the only society member in sight for ages. The fear built as i saw the ARMY of other's arrive. A sea of red... Some 18 plus actual players and a team of supporters too.

Soon Nordie 2 and Letch showed up and soon followed by Apollo, this years Auditor. It quickly became apparent that we were short a few players, and even lacking people to cheer us on.

So everyone who was there went into overdrive phoning everyone we could think of to get them to play in the match. Unfortunately this only ended up amassing a team of 10 people, for certain for the match.

So we arrived at the pitch, red army in toe, with only 10 or so players. At the last second just at kick off, Sherminator and Egyptian Paul popped up racing in on Bikes, just in time!

I played for a few minutes but was flat footed and awful. So i ended up on the metaphorical bench and decided to take a few photo's and be a linesman for a while.

Slowly but surely the slaughter grew. Within the first half the score was around 7-0 with a few contested goals.

The society had gained a few more players by this time, With Capone apparently falling asleep on the bus so still missing in action, his arrival later, albeit hilarious didn't make any difference.

The 2nd half was a stronger performance for a few minutes, by some miracle. We didn't let anything in for at least 10 minutes or more, but most of our team were knackered.

Eventually they started to fly in, and despite switching goalies many time's we couldn't stop it.

I myself even let in at least one, maybe even two... It was just impossible in the mud, with no physical skill or co-ordination, or even proper gear.

The final score was 15+ - 0.

The Societies winning streak destroyed. It's pride and players battered emotionally, and in some case's physically.

So we huddled around, claimed a girl Fresher was the Man of the match for being our best Mid-fielder, and then decided to shake hands with the Opposition. But with a slight ploy.

Slaughter in the mud:

The Society did the honourable thing and shook hands with the opposition. But we had a target in our cross-hair's. Why i'm not sure, but we did. It was an american who we'd shouted to have as a sub since the very begining, just because of his nickname. And he probably seem'd like the best target.

We sought him out. The Others were already flinging each other around in the mud and delighted with themselves. The society wanted some kind of act of anything, whether fun, vengence, ignorance or plain stupidity, they were going to get their man.

We all weaved through the crowd shaking hands. Target spotted.

Within seconds of a reached out hand he was pounced upon.

As i flung myself into the breach i just thought of that colloquial adage, "PILE ON" that's usually screamed when people, ye know, Pile on.

In the ensuing mud soaked mass, huddle and seething of pushes, tustle's and groan's we all got very muddy.

And as i rose from the mass as it cleared the target caught me and slapped to large wad's of Mud into my head with both hands with an almighty smack.

Icky, sticky, uncomfertable and sort of sore, it was still worth it.

Although this was the extent of my tustling in the mud, several people continued to drag, push, throw and pin people all over the place.

I composed myself on the side lines, some people changed and we got an Other to help take a team photo, with some difficulty as some of our members were still knee and face deep in the mud. But we got a proud, mucky photo of the Losers in Blue.

Both side's then joined together in a mass huddle and an Overall photo was taken, something which didn't occur last year, mainly because of the 11-0 for the 4th year in a row.

This time i think the victory was far more obvious. The society knew it was beat, and despite cries of "It's a Pyrrhic victory, if we had 1 goal we would have won it on a emotional level", the hatchets were buried.

GET THE HOSE OUT!

So with it all said and done the 2 teams started to pack up.

I had brought a spare change of cloths so with my coat and some well placed shuffling i changed out of my mucky Tracksuit bottoms, and even changed top and t-shirt, as well as shoes. Despite little play i was well prepared to not sully Bus Eireann whenever i headed home.

As the crowd trickled away i asked where everyone was heading. Most of the Society were heading different ways, Home, buses, town etc The other's though had a house near by to go to and even clean up. That and promise of a place to drink and wind down etc, although it being good friday it was BYOB.

So i followed the crowd and joined in.

At the free gaff i queued with the rest of the others as they all waited to get clean. Out back some used a hose, while others waited for the bathroom.

I was relatively clean, with the exception of my face. So i was near the end of the queue.

After the passing  underwear, wet cloths and freshly cleaned bodies of several people passing me over about 20 minutes i was informed the sink was actually free and separate in the Toilet so i popped in and washed my face.

As i washed someone else joined me at the sink and also started to clean while i was almost finished, so i had to hover my hands over the open toilet bowl while i ringed my hands to the full extent of my Nursing training.

TAKING ONE FOR THE TEAM:

Letch and our man of the match had also joined the mass at the house, but after a while i was the last Society only representative left. But the "craic" was good, and i was having fun laughing at several random stories and with and at all the company so i stayed.

In fact i was there a good while. And i enjoyed it a lot. A fresh reprieve from the slightly more serious talk that you get several times when around Society people. The others were almost from another world, ye know, actually acting like young people and not overtly Intellectual or constantly arguing. Free spirits if you will.

For the most part i just sat and laughed along with all that was happening, rarely pipping up much. After all i knew all of 4 or 5 names of the people around me and couldn't think of much to say. But i was comfortable enough and having fun. Although my rash was visible and it bugged me a lot, so much so i took an emergency extra tablet just to make sure it went away, and didn't bother me to much.

By the evening we ended up playing I never, or in this strange Hiberno-English version, Never have i ever, ye know, for the unintentional grammar nazi's that the Irish language make's us.

This is of course, a drinking game. But i took a glass of water, wasn't unwinding that much, and there wasn't a communal supply going anyway.

A lot of hilarious stories came out, all private of course, so no scandal i'm afraid. But my answers are perflectly admissable.

Never have i ever been involved in sexual act on public transport. Drink.
Never Have i ever had a threesome. Drink.

Someone noticed this and jokingly called me a "Sexual Deviant" in a sort of surprised slagging i guess.

To which my instant response was, strangely and honestly, "Different Continents."

I enjoyed my time, but by 9 i had to leave to get a bus. I wasn't sure what schedual the buses were running on so i had to make my exit.

And by pure luck i got on the bus within a minute of it's departure.

ON THE BENCH:

On tuesday was the election for the society.

I ran last year, and that was chronicled in several posts (which i should link to at some stage).

I voted pretty early after a brief spell in an internet cafe.

I ate Mc D's for lunch, far more expensive than Burger King, bad choice. But i ate slowly, layer by layer of my Big Mac as i watched music video's on the plasma's upstairs.

I kept popping up to the pav to see the drinking voters, but no one was around. That is if i would even recognise my competition, mainly newbie's.

I popped into the national gallery for a while and then back to campus.

Finaly Lenn and Capone were there drinking away with cheap can's of Bevaria, oh memories.

The one armed man joined us. As he sat down i prepared my 750 mil bottle of Pepsi i had been drinking all morning and started to pour the Jameson Whisky i had swipped from the Cloak room's upper shelf. I'd say i added about 100ml to what was left of the pepsi.

Then Nordie 2 and some of the Freshed faced younglings.

Then the new Auditor elect, Joker.

Ming eventually joined us and the storries and laughter lasted a few hours before the count.

Before we all left the Whiskey started to hit me. My face had become pretty numb, it felt like it was drooping. I was a bit dizzy and sort of tingly. And everything was even easier to laugh at. Faster and stronger than any other drunk i had ever been. And even slightly more fun than the downer i get from beer or beer equivilant alco-pops.

The count was just as devastating as i remember. And Ming didn't get elected. I had a long wait for my result.

Several long counts later, i still had all of 3 votes.

And then that was it, i was "eliminated" for not having enough votes. I guess not being around all year, being in another continent etc kind of acted against me.

I shook hands, met the new committee. But it was just as devastating as before. But if i am returning to nursing, as i fully intend to unless some Monetary miracle allows me to do a film course, i will use the Society as a massive social safety net next year. For sanity's sake i'll have to. I'll also get more involved with The Others, as i think they're a bit more my kind of people than i ever realised.

As for the summer, working hopefully. And of course, my student/amateur film...

Until the next time i do something note worthy.. Ciao.

Brief update...

I would love to write more often, i really would.

But with no computer to call my own i spend most internet time, procrastinating and reading shite.

Not blogging or looking for work, or anything heavily constructive....

On Monday's i am continuing to volunteer with Exchange. It was a good 4 hours or so, more friends and got to know the people i met before a little bit more.

It's sort of hard to know what to do and so on, since it's all ad-hoc. But also i was nervous and mumbling, or felt i was some times. A lot of the time when trying to explain the place to people i sort of gave a quick story and passed them on to have a look around. I failed several times to really connect with them, or to sell the place. And since that's what i am meant to be doing, i felt i wasn't doing very well.

At the same time i spent a lot of the time on the pc, a linux super slow machine, but with firefox. I spent a lot of time doing my usual internet Thang. But then started writing or rather re-writing the screenplay concept for my super hero idea. Which i worked on for a while.

I also saw 2 movies that day, Green Zone and Legion. I payed for Legion, but the price was so high, and i had so much spare time that i just popped into Green Zone as well.

I would do a cinephillia review etc, or talk about my love of film and want to do those course's but i don't really want to talk to much about that right now.

This week has been rather uneventful and i would love if i had actually done something. But being short of money, not on the dole, indebted to my parents and stuck at home with no form of transport. I just seem to be overly relying on this isolation to not really deal with anything. And to fob off my feelings and rash as added reasons to not do much and to wake up late.

I might do more if i had the a pc. But at the same time i would also procrastinate more.

I have to come up with a schedule of what to do each day. Take control, and get things done. Find out what i need to find out and help myself get better and get work and eduction, and make friends.

All if's and buts, and candy and nuts etc.

My parents and i keep feigning-ly mentioning that we should all be on diets. But we keep not doing anything about it.

My mother said she'd get a low GI diet cook book for us to use, and that i should cook all the meals since i'm here all the time. I'm not a chef, but i'll do it.

The more time i spend at home the more i keep thinking that Chores, the dishes, mopping, cleaning etc should be featured in my stories to show people living. Cause so far it's the only living i seem to be doing, and it's half arsed at that...

Become organised, enjoy things more, get out of the house more. And earn money. Can't be too hard? Been avoiding it for 7 years....

Sweet Disposition....

What can i say, it's just an amazing song. I first heard it on the trailer for (500) Days of Summer, and have loved it ever since.

(500) Days of SummerImage via Wikipedia

It also helped make my brief time in Australia just that bit more happy/tolerable/familiar.

It's just such a damn good song.

I know i preach that music is Subjective, but to me this song is just Sublime. Not the best song ever, that's not  possible, but ultimately a song that will be in my favorites list for decades to come.

And of course, i still love the aforementioned movie.

I was watching Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy last night and Zoe Deschenel was actually likable in it.

In Elf and as Summer, she kind of seem's like a really attractive cold person. But her quirkiness worked in Hitchhikers, even if it was a short movie.

Joesph Gordon-Levitt on the other hand could never anger me. He's just to god damn good of an actor.

From Tommy in 3rd Rock from the Sun, to 10 Things i hate about you, to a gay prostitute abused as a child, to a jilted boyfriend solving his ex's murder in the Gumshoe-fantastic Brick, to a disgruntled "Stop-lost" Soldier, hell even the psycho Dr in GI Joe, the boy can do no wrong!

PARK CITY, UT - JANUARY 18: Actor Joseph Gord...Image by Getty Images via Daylife

That's why his hitRecord project sounds so damn promising. I can't explain it all myself, but it's basically a music, art, writing and film collective whose sole aim is to share it's content and intellectual property amongst it's users so that they can use it and mash it all up and make something special all in the spirit of free speech and intellectual freedom. Count me in!

And yes i first heard about it from a fellow Blogger, White Rabbit to be precise. But i didn't get around to signing up or fully hoping to embrace the idea until now.

I pine i weep, i perish for a chance to some day make my own movie, or failing that a student film (more on that later).

Toodle's.

It all looks different with hindsight...

Like the apove picture of Reagan visiting Russia it would have looked just like a normal stately visit back in the 80s.

Now it looks like Former President and current Premier  of Russia Putin was part of the crowd as a planted KGB member with a family, there to ask pointed and pre-scripted questions to chalange the western leader.

(BTW, he's the one in the left with the Camera, behind the boy)

I mention all this because i've read back over some of my old posts and i have to say this blog does need some sprucing up when i get back to Ireland. And by this I meand Re-writing history just a little, and making it all a little easier to follow and understand.

Currently i am posting on Reticulating Splines, although it's early day's and it's all quiet here in terms of actual things to say. But that's where my blog's are at at the moment, with the odd one on Social Media Dullard too.

This blog however needs some fine Revision. Some Editing, a lick of paint.

I thought about it before i left, and now i feel i have to actually do it. This blog needs some fixing.

By this i mean, A helpful index of what went on in my life in the past year or so, a guide to what are the key posts and not just narcisistic wankery. And even rename some of those posts so that they are easier to find.

This will also include fixing up the label's and making sure they are all in order.

As well as even sticking in annotations and links to further posts to guide any readers of my back catalog what happened when etc.

I don't actually know when i will do that. But it will be done eventually, and soon. Some time over the next 8 months while this blog is quiet. So expect to see that Helpful Indexing and Guide sometime....

In the Meantime follow what i'm up to or thinking on Reticulating Splines, and read my opinions on my Internet and tech blog Social Media Dullard.

Moving over to another blog...

Yep. My life and it's inner workings is now on the sister blog, Reticulating Splines.

Run Dos, C Dos Run, Run DOS Run!

To borrow a turn of phrase from a friend, if you don't get that reference you need to get out less.

So this morning i woke to the call of chores and having to phone the doctor.

You see i still had my stitches in from my biopsy and mole removal. Now not only was this laziness but it was forgetfulness and very bad. But it's not like we have much money, and i'm not working. So it saved us in the long run, sort of. I wasn't exactly sick from them, yet...

I also had to help my dad with a few things.

I had porridge as he painted the edge's of the walls where a flower wallpaper was previously plastered. My mother had added it to the wall instead of all 4 walls being red. Why i don't know. But i kind of got the idea. But now she hates it even more than when it went up. She went so far as to call it common.

So, in a rare showing of action my dad actually followed orders and ripped it down and started painting. Now this could have something to do with my sister returning home, so what MOTHER says in terms of the look of the house has to be obeyed.

I then phoned the doctors and got a late appointment for 10 to four.

Then when that was done we, me my dad and mad dogs, had to move a bookshelf out of the way for painting.

We catagorised the books. A LOT of cookery books. Some older than myself. Some with stains of food older than myself sticking page's together. Dust with more back story than my very existance. Dust that has passed through at least 4 house's and 30 years to get on my hands and in the air and make me sneeze. Books that were wedding presents they are that old! Books that are rejects of the 70s and are a main influence why Meat Fondu is one of our family's favourite communal meals. (I remember loosing 5 euro on the insistance's that that was what a fondu was, ignorant to the fact that it even means melted cheese in french..)

A choice example of the sort of cook book on the shelf was, A guide to Garden Herbs, Or Blender Recipe's. Seriously, blender recipe's? Who knew you had to learn what to fuck into a blender?

Then on the next shelf was my dads books. Wood working books, IQ test books, information books. Dublin and Dubliners, a collection of essays on Dublin and it's people. And a lost map of Louth that my father miss placed circa when we moved here.

He was a slightly irate however. Several of the very very old and specialist woodwork books, re-sourced from amazon to replace old copies he had years ago were now chew toys. Their bindings long since deafecated by the puppies in the gravel yard out back. And the two little mutts just woddled about unaware of any wrong doing with muddy paw prints ruining the floor i mop infrequently with great urgency to make it appear like i actually do all my chores! The cheek!

We then moved onto the upper shelves. Assorted odd cuttlery, two sugur containers, oddly with sugar in them. And candle sticks shapped like funky drink glasses with burnt out Night Lights (Tea Lights) still in them.

Assorted old birthday cards, including strangely inapropriate "sweet" sixteen cards for myself that made refference to A Shag Bird, and how i wasn't going to get any. Some's up my teenage years right there....

Old baby photos and 2 choice photo's of my sister that show her with our first dog lucy, when she was a toddler and another when she was around 14 with a baby Thrush she rescued. That girl was born to be a Vetenary nurse!

We then moved the bookshelf into the pantry beside the dogs night time cage/kenel.  We stuffed the washing/ironing onto the lower shelf and tidied up the rubbish and recycling that was collecting.

Then we sat down to some computer updating.

As i mentioned before, my dad is down grading several 1,000 euro laptops from Vista to XP so he can control them more easily in his old schools network. ( I say old school, as he retired, but he still works for them since they never hired another IT teacher capable of running every computer in the school.)

So as i tinkered on the one laptop i have temporarily personalised i put in a usb key into the newly XP'ied laptops and changed their identities to the each number he wanted.

There was some trouble getting them to connect to the old network we still have here in the house.

Then my sister rang and my dad was on the phone for at least 10 minutes. Good blog reading time...

When he came back we had a shouting match of hypothosising of what the problem was. The problem was they couldn't find an IP adress because the server wasn't on. The network existed and the laptops, "mine", his (the super widescreen), the school one's and an ancient computer in the Garage could all talk to each other, but they had no IP Adress's. Strangely my dad, the IT and Technology teacher was initially stumped by this. I'm no expert but i quickly assumed you needed the server to tell the Transmitter what to do, and what to call each of the computers connecting, ie the "IP adress". From my limited knowledge of computing, it turns out i was pretty much right. The exact techinicalities are beyond me, but in essance i was right, and once the Server was turned on, it was all fine and dandy.

We XP'ied 10 laptops before i had to take a shower and dash out to do several tasks with my dad before my doctors appointment.

Showered, shaved. Hobo beards aren't good in public, no matter how rugged and Douche like you appear.

So out we went.

A Glass Glaziers first.

It was in a business park.

It wasn't well advertised so we had to drive past each of the "Plots" to see what business occupied them. I say plots, they were warehouse's of varrying size standing inside a terrible one way system of traffic in what was almost a ghost town from some angles.

We eventually found it.

The bollocks of shite rattled about Private and Public sector pay on Liveline was doing my tits in so i flicked the radio to Newstalk. No better. It was Moncrief, and something about suicide service's or some dreary shite. It was raining and murky out, i was in the car with my dad, who can be dull in a car at the best of times, this wasn't helping.

iPod earphone's in!

Didn't help.

Next stop a lamp store. Across the road from an Lidl and and an abandoned plot, adjacent to an abandonded plot that now had an "Australian Circus" in it.

As i sat there with "Dear Maria" by All Time low in my ears. I witness a horde of tracksuited youths nuckle dragg themselves across the car park of Lidl and across the wasteland towards the circus.

Then a minute or so later another one on his own came out onto the road with a Heavy lifting Trolley, the kind you see in homebase.

He just looked like he was going to knick something.

Then as my dad returned. Kids half the age of the others passed on our side of the road with a similar trolley and a stack of Wooden packaging crates. Yep it's Halloween, and it's Drogheda....

We went to yet another Retail Park around the corner, passed at least a few dozen acre's of abandoned large warehouse's and former factories or tech companies. Then into a uniformed grey business park with a large "WATER PARK" in its entrance. An indoor water park, inside a rather large Grey corrigated warehouse with odd windows here and there showing off rainbow platforms and twisty tube's and slide's.

The business my dad was looking for wasn't answering. The only "business" doing business in this god awful development was the water fun house thing.

Drogheda has some of the worst town planning imaginable. It was utterly appaling.

Then back to the lidl.

I sat and starred at the main Road that goes to the M1 but doesn't actually go onto it, and also goes back into town and the Bus Depot.

Coache's and traffic huddled by in the murkey overcast evening. I bopped about to the dying battery of my ipod as Immigrents and local yokels shoped.

We finished and head to the doctors.

While approaching the bus depot i saw a teen pushing a pram. She didn't exactly look enthusiastic....

The Doctors.

I spent most of my time waiting on my mobile, surfing on Opera Mini and Snaptu. Passing the time.

In the corner 2 toddler siblings played noisely with the toys. There mother in a pink velure tracksuit butting in every few minutes to shut them up.

Beside me a African family sat with a young girl standing beside her mother, sheepishly staring at the other children, waiting to get a chance to use the toys.

Her mother kept asking her to sit down in the seat beside me but she didn't. She stood there with her dread lockes, coloured plastic beads and sheepish face, waiting to play.

The two siblings coughed and spluttered all over the shop as the screamed and talked relative nonsense to each other and bounced around on their plastic chairs.

Then they started asking each other "do you have TICKULLLZ!!!" And then that started to get out of hand.

So angry and frustrated the Pink Tracksuited mother dragged the two out with her, either for a smoke brake or to refill the meter. It seemed like she had been called to the doctor, so the little African girl was over at the toys in a flash. Happy as larry when she found a Book on Tiger.

Then the other two returned but sat in a differnt place.

The second they came in, the floor was now their play space.

The boy instantly prosented the Door stop to his mother's face asking "what's this, what does it do?"

"put it back, Lulia get off the floor, get out from under der, yer gonna get all muckie, look here come's the doctor, the doctor's comin', he's gonna be cross with ya!"

They eventually went in.

The look of relief from the 2 OAP's tag-reading a newspaper and all it's supplements barely talking past idle celebrity gossip and tv schedule's, was priceless. They didn't really say anything but i could hear from their sighs and distain "Utter Disgrace" and so on.

Even the African Mother was relieved the terrible two were gone.

My dad then arrived in a sat with me. I had been waiting so long at this stage that he had had time to walk all the way down to West Street to the Pharmacy and back again with the perscription for my Rash (Lichen Pilanus, the rash's suspected name and diagnosis), a persciption i should have bought a week before my biopsy and mole removal, which was at the start of the month!

Finally in with the doctor.

It was the male doctor. Ie i had gone full circle over the summer after 5 appointments i had seen all the doctors, 3 of them female, 1 his wife, 1 a newbie. And now i was back with him again, after first showing him the rash 5 months ago.

The Stich on my Wrist had already snapped and all he had to do was pull it out.

The 3 on my chest were a bit harder, but standered snip and pull. They had stayed in so long the site's are a bit swallon, excoriated and scabby, but they're fine. I doubt it will leave much of a mark, but they will look like this for a while i bet. My own fault, but hey, it's not life threatening that i delayed. Not this time or for these stitches anyway.

Chit chat about failing my course and heading off to Oz. No health concerns, it's summer there soon and they got the Swine flu jab first, so all i have to worry about is putting sunscreen on EVERY day.

We got home and my dad and myself hurridly tidied up the computers, moved the books, cleaned the kitchen and started chopping onions and carrots for my mother's dinner within half an hour.

When she came in, she wasn't pushed about the stew and told the dad to put it in the lower shelf of the AGA. The Dad and I had Curly Chips and Burgers.

Thus ends my "riveting" day....

On Friday and Saturday i am attending the UCD IV with Ming as my teammate for the craic like. So i'll be AFK for a couple of days. I will loose this laptop to it's XP-ing also.

Expect some sort of word along the way. Keep an I on my facebook or twitter if you're really desperate to hear about my dull life and moderate prose.

Until next time, it's a good night from me, and it's a good night from him. Goodnight.

A week with a laptop.....

So this week, i have a laptop to myself.

This strange occurance, occured, when the dad forced me off his laptop and suggested i use one of the laptops he was repairing for the school  he used to work for.

Each laptop about a grand each, apparently, and some snot-nosed toe-rags have vandalised them in a multitude of ways. From removed keys, to broken mouse's, to password locking them, or even deleting the boot up protocol's. Utter dicks.

But i get to use one for myself for a whole week before it's taken back and down graded to windows XP so that the non-existant IT department, formely my dad, can keep a good check on this laptops and decrease the level of crazy lockouts and software vandalism that these "gurriers" can do to them.

So it means i can do what ever i want with it for a limited time.

Already i'm wasting a lot more time.....

All the little tools i use, such as Yoono, digsby and Flock browser are a must. Then a favourite computer game, OpenTTD. Then the Google Aps Pack, which also has a toolbarred Firefox for good measure.

Then Utorrent to get music i failed to download before we switched from "Net one" to Eircom for our internet service.

When the switch happened i lost internet in my own PC in my bedroom. Unwilling and un-informed as to how to re-create a network to give me back internet, my dad has been semi-content to let me have couch time on his mega-laptop. A 17 inch beast of a thing that really isn't much fun to use when i can't personalise it or use it when i want to.

But now i have this baby and my productivity, if i had any, is even worse. Now the parentals have been home all weekend and today, but i barely did any chores. I was even so bored on this lap top that i was "almost" pro-active in contacting prospective colleges for next year.... I say almost, i had the tab open each time my dad walked in as i patiently tried to watch Greek. But it counts, i even had a window open with Gmail ready to ask the right person about my eligibility and everything but i was lazy and i closed it eventually.

Last night i discovered that i can get a minute signal in my room on the lap top. Cue watching Heroes at 2am and other idiotic moves.

Then tonight i watched the Red carpet of This is IT live on the Michael jackson facebook page via uStream. But i was pretty peeved when it was ONLY a red carpet show, and not a free movie showing.

I then started to watch battlestar galactica: The plan. But my measly connection crapped out.

I then sent email's to my friends because i was that bored. I couldn't get to sleep and i had lot's of thoughts that i wanted to hammer out.

With my own computer i never do this as it takes time to boot up, and even this new model is a bit too loud to bother. I usually suffer through and fall asleep like a good human.

Not with a laptop. No, here i am, not even a peep of internet, and i'm still typing away, because i can!

This is a failed experiment, if it even was one.

I know i long for A Chrome OS netbook in a year or so's time, or any small little laptop to call my own once i have money. But knowing the full evil i can unleash by having one in my bed.

I DO NOT WANT.

I really should be sleeping. Curse you internet, and white glow of computing.
