Head to Head 1: Dookie Vs Word Gets Around.

I have had this idea swiming in my head for a good while, and i thought i might as well do it. Which band is greater over the past 15 to 20 years, Green Day or Stereophonics?

To Answer this impossible question i will leave the judgement down to their first mainstreem albums. Green Day's iconic Dookie and the Genious that is Stereophonics Word Gets Around. To do this i will rate each song and add up the total and add extra points for brilliance, melodic nature and influence(which green day have in the bag).

Dookie's track list:
Burnout - Melodic, memorable, simple beat 8/10
Having a blast - Dark, good image's, catchy, 7/10
Chump - too short, highly memorable 6/10
Longview - 9/10 No explination needed
welcome to paradise - 7/10
pulling teeth - 6/10
basket case -8/10
she - hard to understand at times, still catchy, 6/10
sassafras roots - hard to understand, still good, 6/10
when i come around - a true classic, 8/10
coming clean - seem's short 6/10
emenius sleepus -6/10
in the end - fast, 7/10
Fuck Off and Die - amazing, catchy, great ending, 8/10
Bonus: All by myself - funny, disturbing, 5/10

Total: 103. Considering uneven track listings i will still add points for influence, but also deduct some. Green Day spring boarded to stardom from this album, however do remember Blvd of fraking crap over played song. And Basket case has been covered by some very unworthy bands, not a good thing at all. All in all i have to make it 98 points.

Word gets around:
A thousand tree's - Amazing, catchy, melodic, brilliant lyrics, 8/10
looks like chaplin - catchy, hard to understand, great lyrics 7/10
more life in a tramps vest - amazing chorus, 7/10
local boy in the photograph - surprisingly good, 6/10
traffic - best heard live, 7/10
not up to you - a middle of the road song on this album, but still strong 6/10
check my eyelids for holes - possibly best lyrics on this album, 8/10
same size feet - slow start, great lyrics, 6/10
last of the big time drinkers - simple enough, good chorus, 7/10
goldfish bowl - strong lyrics, social comentary, 7/10
too many sandwiches - funny 6/10
billy davey's daughter - slow, moving, strong, 6/10

Total:81. But the raw potential, the amazing unique lyrics and stronger vocal clarity. More melodic moments but equally as many hit songs, or at least potential. Giving it took nearly 10 years to properly top this album and far less hit songs from later albums. The final score is 94.

There you have it. A pointless excercise, but Green Day wins by 4 points.

Please note this is more which album is better, not which band. After all, we all know it's....

But this was a battle between these early master-piece's.

Green Day are superior, i forget warning for obvious reasons but they are far more consistant. Thats why they get far more "air time" on my iPod.
